EDITORIAL: Trump on DACA: Do your job, Congress

Lundi, 11 Sep, 2017

The media and the Left howled in protest but political observers view Trump's move as an attempt to punt the issue to Congress, where there is likely little desire to dissolve a program that benefits so-called "Dreamers" who were brought to the United States as children with their illegal-alien parents.

"As President Trump's statements about Mexico and those with Mexican roots show, the President has demonstrated a willingness to disparage Mexicans in a misguided attempt to secure support from his constituency, even when such impulses are impermissible motives for directing governmental policy", the lawsuit said.

"Currently around 30,000 Asian-Americans, comprising over 5,500 Indians and over 2,800 Pakistanis have received DACA", the report said and added that India was in the top ten countries for undocumented immigrants who meet DACA eligibility criteria.

Four years after comprehensive immigration legislation passed the Senate only to die in the House, Trump tossed to Congress the question of what to do with almost 800,000 young immigrants who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. In order for my family to come to the United States in the late 1800s, they had to travel by foot, get examined in their port of departure, reexamined in the U.S., and pass certain tests. In part, it's expression of an uncomfortable truth that immigration reformers routinely dismiss and often deny: that legalizing the residency of people living here illegally amounts to forgiving their (or their parents') infractions, while ratifying their cutting in line ahead of other would-be legal immigrants.

The Trump administration gave Congress six months to find a legislative solution before DACA will end.

The Inland Empire-Immigrant Youth Collective vowed to continue fighting to defend DACA.

The open letter points out that the DACA program has been successful. He chose not to stay as long as planned.

"My mother had to cry alone and I couldn't do anything about it".

"They don't deserve to be punished".

Trump's decision to rescind DACA also upholds the rule of law, which is critical for our constitutional system of government to function properly.

Litigation to keep DACA in place is imminent.

In his speech announcing the end of the dreamer program, Sessions was not about to shed any tears for the beneficiaries.

On Wednesday, Trump said he is confident Congress will act on the issue.

The Dreamers came to this country with their families and consider themselves Americans, despite not having legal status.

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is filing a lawsuit involving multiple states over President Donald Trump's plan to end a program protecting young immigrants from deportation.

As Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., could tell you, being pegged as a proponent of amnesty (or "shamnesty", if you prefer it in the original conservatese) is a heck of a way to win a Republican primary in the 21st century. Protestors took to Park Square in Pittsfield in the rain on Thursday to speak out in support of keeping the program. "We don't approve of it and something needs to be done". Trump has given Dreamers whose DACA permits expire before March 5, 2018 one month (until October 5) to apply for a renewal, which would be good for another two years.

The lawsuit's path forward is hazy, however. In effect what President Obama did was to reward lawbreakers, and encourage only greater numbers of illegal immigrants in the future. It is also important to note that those with a significant criminal record aren't even eligible for DACA, debunking any claims of Dreamers of embodying great impropriety.
